ESD #50 Administrator: Jimmy Sumbera
Since the beginning of 2012 the Harris County ESD 50 has been involved in the direct management of the Channelview Fire Department. We are committed to ensuring that the firefighters and medics that protect our lives and property have the tools and equipment to effectively carryout their jobs on a daily basis. We strive to provide these services using conservative fiscal principles.
The fire department is committed to providing high quality service to the community. In May 2014 we opened a new fire station at 16229 Market St. that is fully staffed 24/7 with 7 firefighters. We are also excited to announce that the new Fire Station No. 3 at 1200 Dell Dale is in the final phase of planning and construction is projected to start in July 2016. The new station will house administration, training, and a fully staffed fire station. The fire station at 904 Dell Dale will be closed once the new station is operational.
As we move into the beginning of a new year we look forward to our continual efforts to improve services. Looking back at 2015 we are proud of the Department’s accomplishments and changes. During 2015 the staffing matrix was changed by reducing the hours worked by the staff while keeping their compensation the same. We added an additional position to each shift and moved the employees to a 48 hour shift with 144 hours off between shift. We have been blessed with and are extremely proud of the fact that we have a great group of men and women that provide excellent emergency services to our community.
As a local government we always welcome your questions and concerns. Without the communities input and support we would not be able to provide the services we do. Harris County ESD 50 and Channelview Fie Department are very grateful to the taxpayers and citizens of Channelview.
Best Regards,
Jimmy Sumbera
